Project Manager Purchasing (PMP)

The Planning, Product Development & Purchasing department secures competitive marine and industrial power systems, and has overall responsibility for policies, guidelines, methods etc. regarding development and quality assurance of all product development and purchasing work within Volvo Penta.
We are now looking for a Project Manager Purchasing (PMP) to join our amazing team in Chesapeake, Virginia.
What is the Job?
As a Project Manager Purchasing, you will be accountable for leading and managing purchasing activities, tooling investments and quality assurance (APQP) in both product development and cross-functional projects, and contribute to project deliveries to ensure Volvo Penta’s profitability. Some of your core responsibilities will include:

  • Serving as a purchasing representative in the project team as well as the project representative within the purchasing community.
  • Planning, controlling, and reporting purchasing deliverables in each gate in accordance with our development process and proactively strategize activities to meet the demands.
  • Leading and steering purchasing project action items, and highlighting purchasing demands with regard to other functions in the project plan in order to safeguard project deliverables.
  • Communicating to stakeholders, in purchasing and other functions, deviations to the project plan that include recovery plans, and presenting project status to purchasing reference groups and other relevant forums.
  • Consolidating tooling investments for the projects, as well as working in accordance with the existing tools and processes to further improve processes and efficiency in purchasing.

This position requires a higher level of education and we’re looking for someone who has a bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or a related field. You will also need to have a minimum of five (5) years’ experiences in project management and development, along with basic technical knowledge, and the ability to understand engineering drawings and vocabulary.
