An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Legal Counsel to join the EMEA North & West Legal and Compliance team for Volvo Financial Services. this position is based in our UK head office in Warwick easily accessible from Birmingham, Coventry, Banbury, Leicester and surrounding areas. This is a grade 9 position.
The team provides legal and regulatory support to VFS for markets including the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands and the Nordics. The objective of the team is to support VFS in being the best captive finance provider in the industry by delivering legal services as part of the global Legal team.
Drafting and negotiating commercial contracts
Addressing customer queries on the terms of financial agreements, conducting periodic reviews and managing any necessary updates to template documents.
Assisting Insurance Managers with necessary legal and compliance support in arranging and providing insurance products.
Supporting the Senior Legal Counsel in advising on regulatory and compliance topics, including anti-money laundering, competition law, anti-bribery and corruption and FCA compliance.
Working alongside the Senior Legal Counsel to undertake horizon scanning activities to identify any relevant legal and regulatory issues and taking proactive steps to address any necessary changes in practices, policies and procedures, including the provision of training.
Providing prompt and concise support to the business as and when required and representing the legal function on cross-departmental projects.
Instructing and managing external legal counsel, particularly in non-UK markets, and proactively looking for ways to streamline and share best practice across the sub-region and EMEA.
Experience, qualifications and skills
Qualified solicitor or barrister with at least 4 years relevant post-qualification experience with a leading law firm or in-house team, with experience of advising on commercial law.
Demonstrable experience of showing a high level of attention to detail, particularly in relation to reviewing and drafting commercial contracts.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact and influence at all levels, both internally and externally with a positive attitude.
Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills. Ability to manage own workload and handle multiple priorities under tight timeframes. Strong analytical skills.
Ability to work on own initiative, often as part of cross-functional teams, with minimal supervision. Proactive in taking responsibility and ensuring completion of tasks.
Strong personal credibility, professionalism and integrity. Enjoy a mix of legal and business work, have strong business acumen, show an appetite to learn, and develop in order to become a trusted and valued partner in business.
Confidence and the ability to deliver internal training sessions.
