Assistant Controller – Extended Warranty

The primary purpose of this position is to develop and lead all Business Control activities related to sales of Extended Warranty Contracts and all other Uptime related Soft Product Offerings for both the Volvo and Mack Brands in North America (U.S. Canada and Mexico). Responsibilities include building targets, forecasting, analyzing deviations, detecting trends and patterns, and proposing corrective actions in a timely manner. This position will have an active role in the Uptime Warranty and Quality Management Team.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities
  • Provide Senior Management with critical analyses of the financial performance related to sales of Extended Warranty Contracts and other Soft Product Offerings.
  • Direct the preparation/reporting of forecasts and monthly estimates (including cash flows) and follow up on actual results.
  • Monitor and report on sales and gross profit trends as well as the financial performance of the overall portfolio.
  • Work closely with the Product Engineering/Technology, Warranty Administration and Sales teams to understand the development of warranty costs and trends
  • Support with the development of pricing models, business cases and strategies affecting Extended Warranty Contracts and other Soft Product Offerings.
  • Provide sensitivity analysis and business case evaluation for potential initiatives.
  • Preparation of various other standard monthly financial analyses, presentations and related material
  • Key contact for all internal and external audits related to extended warranties and soft products
  • Preparation of various ad-hoc analysis for Business Review Meetings and / Board meetings.
  • Collaborate with Business Controllers and other cross functional representatives within the organization to keep abreast of financial and operational matters impacting operating results.

Essential Educational and/or Training Qualifications and Certificates
  • BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance or a related field
  • CPA Certificate and/or MBA a plus
Preferred Experience and Knowledge
  • 5 years or more years of experience in Accounting or Financial Planning and Control.
  • Prior Experience with Warranties & Purchased Coverage a plus
  • High level of expertise in MS Excel and PowerPoint, experience with SAP, SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS Visual Analytics will be preferred
  • Basic understanding of Accounting; mainly the revenue recognition model
Critical Competencies
  • Strong Analytical skills, and apply these skills to analyze large amounts of data, and make business recommendations
  • Understanding of Automotive Warranty processes, especially extended warranty processes and revenue recognition models.
  • Knowledge of the North American automotive industry. Specific knowledge in the Trucking Industry will be preferred.
