Director Transit Parts Sales

As part of the Volvo Group, Volvo Buses manufacturing and sales organizations within North America are comprised of Prevost, Nova Bus and Volvo 9700 - each brand is a market leader within product offering(s) and customer's served. For this position, we are focused on Nova Bus transit bus parts sales, supporting customers and overall buying cycle within after delivery support. For Nova Bus, all parts distribution within North America is handled by Prevost parts. Prevost is the coach brand within North America, delivering the highest level of customer satisfaction and experience amongst our competitors. Prevost has been in business for 95 years, it's name and reputation is tantamount to rock star status with buses carrying rock stars! We are the parts sales and distribution arm for Nova Bus - thus interfacing with our transit end users. Our parts are stored within two distribution centers (1 USA / 1 CAD) with supporting local materials also managed from our service centers.

Our internal teams are broken down into multifunctional areas; logistics & materials planning, publications, operations, sales, bids and customer service. All of these functions are managed under one organizational unit, thus we drive our business in one singular direction without conflicting objectives. Our teams are connected with one another by one common structure, thus flexibility and speed are crucial to manage market expectations from our customers.

Job Summary
The Director Transit Parts Sales (DTPS) has overarching responsibilities within respect to sales, sales planning, new market opportunities and managing existing customer relationships. The DTPS has USA and Canadian responsibility for business development and sales execution in conjunction with RSM, transit bids and customer management. The DTPS purpose is to lead the organization within product mix, targeted product market while protecting existing market share within transit parts sales.

Core Responsibilities
  • Be the Brand ambassador for Nova Bus parts and business development
  • Create and share with internal teams a deep understanding of the holistic commercial heavy duty parts market and impact of parts services within this market (where do opportunities exist, how to drive those opportunities into strategy)
  • End to end vision of customer & OEM relationship, our customers drive our business thus our focus is their success
  • Develop life cycle model of parts consumption, vehicle in operation parts consumption forecast and measure against actual performance
  • Review new parts creation process and provide insight of serviceable items to our Product Line Management (PLM) team, as well as Regional Sales Manager (RSM)
  • Identify and develop market opportunities that have been untouched by VBNA service parts organization in conjunction with transit bid team, customer service team(s) and inventory planning
  • Business development through market analysis and product line performance evaluation – various sales metrics deployed to drive decisions in line with corporate & financial goals
  • Bridge opportunities between bid department and regional sales managers, help facilitate quarterly meetings with bid analyst and RSM team focusing on key transit accounts
  • Recommend inventory level changes within our Distribution Center, Service Centers and ensuring PLM team is driving towards customer critical components within each respective fleet service area is respected
  • Develop relationships with the key customer personnel to facilitate the flow of information required to improve our bidding position; fill rate ratios and customer satisfaction level
  • Coordinate all internal requirements for accounts and drive teams assigned to key accounts to develop plans on increasing sales
  • Support core brand relating to critical stocking levels, baselines inventory requirements necessary for new product releases without sales history
  • Act as a customer advocate internally and externally within the organization, the DTPS is facing to our customer base, thus areas of concerns must be elevated accordingly
  • Act as Prevost representative with customers and other organizations at business and social events
  • Participate in job related training exercises

  • Foster teamwork and improved communications between sectors

Required Competencies
  • Strong computer knowledge of MS office products also proficiency in spreadsheet applications
  • Heavy duty commercial bus experience is required
  • Commercial Vehicle Sales Experience Preferred
  • Solid technical parts application experience
  • Open and positive attitude
  • Excellent Customer focus
  • Ability to mobilize different departments or people to solve problems and achieve results
  • Communicate efficiently internally and with stakeholders
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing customer demands
  • Proven ability to work cohesively in a team
  • Other languages like French, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, etc. is a plus
Minimum Education Required
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Bachelor's degree in business related field or higher (M.B.A preferred)
Minimum Years of Experience Required
  • 5-7 years customer sales experience within heavy duty truck or bus industry or 10 years of related field customer service parts or mechanical experience
  • Experience with electronic parts manual
  • Experience with customer management
  • Experienced with SAP Interface Module
  • Key account management experience
  • Prior leadership role / experience managing people is a must
Physical Requirements
  • Travel is required 85% of time, dependent on market need / customer requirements
  • Home office based position
