We are now looking for a Senior Design Engineer to complete our Product Development Team in Chesapeake, Virginia.
What is the job?
As a Senior Design Engineer, you will be accountable for performing multifaceted tasks that support Volvo Penta’s mission to include providing a high level of expertise, knowledge, originality, and analysis in interacting with the Product Development team and external organizations. As a Senior Design Engineer, the core of your responsibilities will include:
  • Serving as an experienced engineer in a specialized and/or complicated area of assignment requiring limited direction and supervision.
  • Planning, developing, and completing engineering projects within an area of assignment in accordance with Volvo standards to include detailed documentation and report writing.
  • Constructing and documenting a detailed time schedule from project start to finish. You will also maintain budget proposals for new projects.
  • Determining the proper methods of design and verification required to complete any new assignment/project.
  • Completing work requirements within Creo and PDMLink Software Packages.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulating bodies: ABYC, EU, EPA, SAE, ISO. You will also assure compliance with all applicable marine regulations relating to your area of responsibility.

Do you have commitment and drive?
We are committed to our customers and the success of Volvo Penta. In this position, you will work with a high-performing, innovative, and award-winning team. However, to be successful in this position you will need extensive experience in engine transmission component design (including castings), and know how to create 3D CAD modeling of complex parts and castings. You will need to be exceptionally organized and analytical in your approach to problem solving, and have the ability to drive root cause analysis of problems/issues as well as drive assignments to full completion within a defined time schedule and budget.
As we are a truly global and diverse organization, you will need to be fluent in speaking and writing English in order to communicate with cross-functional project teams in both Chesapeake and Sweden.
This position requires a higher level of education and we’re looking for someone who has a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, and a minimum of 10 years of progressive engineering experience (preferably in the marine or automotive industry).
